Should I upgrade my cpu or my gpu?

ZEr3F

Budget (including currency): 200USD

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

Purely for gaming.

Upcoming triple A games such as Cyberpunk 2077.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I have an existing i3 8100, gtx 1060 6gb, and a 3200mhz ram. Should I upgrade the cpu or the gpu first? I really have put my self in a bit of a pickle here. Thought anyone here could help. Thanks!

if you upgrade cpu you need a new mobo and the fps difference wont be as big, look at used market for a gpu 1080/70ti/1660S/5600

FX8350,HD7870,H100i,CX750,16GB DDR3,500GB 850 EVO,K70&M65RGB, BenQXL2720Z,ATH-M50X,Blue Snowball,Razer Vespula

I would need to upgrade the mobo if I'm looking for a 10th gen cpu , except I'm not.. Do you think it's still worth upgrading to something like an i5 9400/f or i7 9700?

1 you will need new cpu , mobo , ram anyway.

2. intel chips are quite old , 9400f.... and locked... and hot thermals due to bad thermal paste, while ryzen have none of these issue at 0 cost and most important , all ryzen have multithreading

3. you get oc cpu and ram with ryzen cheapo and good mobo ~ $80 up

4. assume zen3 must be better than zen2, at ipc +15% , gaming will be better than intel

5. stock coolerof ryzeen is great

finally pick both sys intel and ryzen , at same price, see what you get
