What about the speakers you recommended to me?

They are slightly lacking according to this review but you kinda expect that from most speakers. I haven't listened to any so can't say for sure.

Will the bookshelf speakers still have some bass to them? I can live without it for now and buy one down the road. I'm not majorly concerned. My girlfriend is getting my speaker system when I buy myself a new set so I won't be able to use the sub of my current set, although I doubt I would be able to anyway.

With the lepai amp, you can turn the treble waaaaay down and turn the bass waaaay up if the speakers you find are extremely lacking. I did this with some small 2-way bookshelf speakers I got recently (not for main use), and the bass is acceptable-ish. Just did a super quick eBay search to see what out there now, and found a couple things you might want to consider. Used is the way to go for speakers when you don't got a wheelbarrow of money to dump.

Now, if you're willing to save up a tiny bit more money, I'd highly suggest you shoot for some big full-range speakers. You don't need an expensive subwoofer that way. I've got a similar pair which runs just fine off the Lepai amp, and is totally overkill for my small bedroom, but I'm hanging onto them for when I get my own place.

Well, there's a 2-way going for $180, but I would wait for a similarly priced 3-way. Can't find any right now but they pop up from time to time.

Found a good 3-way smaller one which'd be better than the two previously posted probably: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PIONEER-S-P410V-MAGNETICALLY-SHIELDED-3-WAY-BOOKSHELF-SPEAKERS-TESTED-GOOD-/350704269154?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item51a79a7762

Sitting on the carpet, they're almost as tall as my desk. I use them as stands for my smaller speakers.  B)
