Hey there guy's.

I just placed an order for a phantom 820 and a Maximus 6 formula to go with it and i am looking to buy the Asus GTX either the 770
or the 780, the CPU is going to be cooled with the 240M seidon. So my question to you guy's is would the side panel fan on the
820 increase, do nothing or simply decrease(due to turbulence or something) the cooling performance of the GPU.

I will be using negative airflow due to the fact that i am in a dust "little" enviroment.

ps. i am new so if i am in the wrong place for this topic please let me know.

just stick to the stock fans that come with the case and you will be fine other fans wont effect the temps that much

Personally I'm not a big fan(get it) of side fans as I prefer the idea of a "wind tunnel" design, where the air comes in from one side and out the opposite. In practice the more fresh air you can get to an open gfx-cooler while getting rid of the warm air, the better.

When it comes to air pressure, regardless of dust amount, positive is still better than negative, but the closer you can get to balanced airflow(intake=exhaust) the better cooling performance you will get.

Also worth mentioning: the aftermarket cards will struggle to hit 80°C in an average climate and average gaming system, so I dont think the side fans will affect the card performance noticeably in gaming (2-3fps on BF3/4*)

*personal estimate

I got it :) (fan)

So even though the performance is marginal it still might the keep the GPU(as in all of it) cooler and ergo longer litime of the card?

its not worth using the side case fan. Creating the true flow path for the air is better.. intake on front/bottom and exhaust back/top is best.. keeping that side closed fully is better to optimize airflow.

Well technically yes, but the interuption to the case's ability to exhaust hot air negates the need for a side fan(imo). Think of it as sacrificing 2-3fps for overall better system performance, as getting air to the cpu, power delivery etc will be better without the side fan.
