Windows misreporting SSD capacity and usage

Ok guys, never seen this one before.

Had a buddy ask me to look at his laptop. Its a new HP Pavilion with a 10th gen i5. It is supposed to have a 512gb ssd + 32gb optane drive

He can't remember everything he has done to it but says he moved where windows was installed a few time so I am going in blind.

in file explorer he has 2 drives (see attachment 1)

C:/ 41.6 gb free of 76.4 gb
D:/ 27.1 gb free of 27.2 gb

My first thought was to check disk management and see if there was an uninitialized drive or something.
(see attachment 2)

Disk managment shows a 476 gb partition that *seemingly isn't seen by windows

BUT, WINDOWS storage settings show that 435 GB are used? (attachment 3)

Need some help as i've never seen this before and I have no clue how my friend got here.

Thanks.

Reinstall and start fresh the right way. Walk him through the process so he understands how to do that. Make sure all files are backed up somewhere prior to.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Thanks

And that is not the way you should solve any problems. Do not jump to reinstall every time you see something strange.

Download MiniTool Partition Wizard, shrink your C partition just a little (by 5 MB for example) and apply changes.
