Budget (including currency): $2500.00

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Primarily will be used for gaming but my wife would also like to use for photo editing.  I play all sorts of games, RPGs, Shooters, Simulation, Strategy, Platformers, etc.  If the game is good and catches my attention, I'll play it.  Multiplayer tends to lean towards Call of Duty as some of my friends only play that but I will definitely dabble in other games.

Other details I've been a console gamer for my whole life but have always been intrigued in building a PC.  I've dabbled in PC gaming with my laptop and I really enjoy what it offers and I'm ready to really dive in.  With the next gen really merging console and PC gamers, this seems like the best time to make the switch as I won't be abandoning my friends and co-workers as I can still play Call of duty with them without missing out on all the power that comes with PC gaming.   I have a monitor already that has a 1440p resolution and 144hz refresh rate and I have a razer deathadder mouse that I use with my laptop.  I will upgrade the monitor at a later date, but first I want to build my PC using a new 3080 graphics card as this seems like a great price point to jump into for all that power.  I don't have any other components for the PC.  I have a vague idea for gaming but no idea what specs I need for photo editing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wait another month, there's a new CPU lineup right around the corner.

You don't wanna build a system right now.

For the GPU the 3080 will be great (if you can get one).

CPU : 6 or 8 cores AMD Ryzen 4000 series.

Memory : 32GB DDR4

Motherboard : B550

SSD : Samsung 970 evo

HDD : 2 TB or more.

PSU : Corsair CXM 650

Oh yeah , get the GPU first, even if you don't have the system yet.

If you miss the GPU on launch date, you will have to wait up to 3 months as the demand is skyhigh.

Good to know on the CPUs, waiting is not an issue for me. I can always get a next gen console in November and then build the pc early 2021 as the important thing is to do it right.  Like I said, my wife wants to be able to do photo editing and I want to be able to game.

i can get a next gen console as a secondary system when wife is using the pc or just an easy living room setup for the family.

thank you for the list of suggestions
