I've used 7950 (which was really bad) and from that I have switched to R9 280x (and it was also bad).

Since getting rid of R9 280x I've been using a 1060 6GB and I've been really happy so far.

I've seen the new design of AMD's card and it does look good, however I have a question:

Are AMD's drivers and cards (in terms of cooling) any good when thought of recent years?

Navi's drivers were a mess for at least half a year, if not more. They're fine now, at last, though it's also been over a year since the 5700 Series' release.

Their reference coolers also haven't been anything to write home about. Blower style coolers for the most part, and then the odd good looking open air design, like on the Radeon VII, which unfortunately just happened to be horribly loud.

If you're interested in upgrading to RDNA2, definitely wait for reviews. Well, this applies to anything really, but in this case especially regarding both how stable the drivers are and how the cooler will perform.

The cards are being revealed on October 28th, and if AMD's words from earlier in the year are to be believed.. release date before November 10th? (since that's when the Xbox Series X is being released)

And just released the design for the reference coolers. There’s a fortnite (why? Can I expect a Radeon skin?) island and everything. They look to be less terrible than their blower coolers. Rdna1 was etter than the gen before, and early crap and the Xbox showcase (like the Austin evans and minecraft rtx) videos look pretty good. And, rtx 3000 will probably be more widely available after we see what RDNA2 can do anyways.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

I've kind of already made my mind up on 3080 but I feel like I should also wait for RDNA2 just to see what AMD is doing.
Though I don't know if I want to risk buying RDNA2 after all the things I've been through with my old cards to be honest.

If you're not in a hurry to upgrade, I agree that it'd definitely be wise to wait and see what AMD brings to the table.
