Should I upgrade my pc now or wait?

My current pc: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Pcoolguy/saved/#view=yRFj23

My pc is technically from 2013 because of the ram, cpu and motherboard. My grandpa built it for me in 2017 with old parts he had. I would like to upgrade the cpu but I haven't done that because then I also need to upgrade the motherboard and ram.

I am afraid that the same thing is going to happen if I upgrade now because it feels like ddr5 and AM5 is right around the corner. I will probably buy the RTX 3070 even though I only have PCIe 3.0 and I think i am able to wait for another year or two for ddr5 and AM5 if it means long term compatability.

But should I upgrade my motherboard, cpu and ram now or should I wait for AM5 and ddr5 if you think about long term compatability?

Jayz made a video about this. There will always be a cycle of this. Am5/ddr5 is in a year. Get r4000 and rtx3000/rdna2. It’s not like your system mill magically be slower when something new come out.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

No, don't worry, when it come you still can use DDR4 system just as good as you're using your DDR3 system right now.

Plus it would be more expensive than DDR4, so it's reasonable to wait a year after to join the bandwagon.

DDR5 will not be out for a very long time. Most likely it'll be out for consumers in 2022 but nobody can really say at this stage.

If you're only looking to upgrade the GPU I'd wait for AMD. I have a feeling they'll easily give you better performance than the 3070 for less cost.
