Help please :(

Hi everyone!

I want your opinnions about this idea.
I work in a small company that works with Geographic Information System Mapping (GIS) and they have like 60TB of data spread in various external HDD.
They want to modernize their information system and I have to propose some ideas.

 

Actually, they have 2 servers.

Server 1 - Some HP server (oldest):

• CPU:  Intel Xeon CPU E3-1220 V2 @ 3.10GHz
• RAM: 8 GB
• 4 HDD trays with 1 TB each (In one of those Ubuntu 18 is installed)
• 1 TB SSD empty (because they want to install OS there)

 

Server 2 - Dell PowerEdge R540 (newest):

• CPU: Xeon Silver 4110
• RAM: 32GB
• 8 trays for HDD/SSD:
  • 1 TB SSD with Ubuntu Server 18.
  • RAID 0 (via BIOS): 2 TB HDD + 2 TB HDD. They are the same model.
  • 1 HDD 5 TB.
  • 16 TB in RAID 10 (16 + 16) Seagate Iron Wolf NAS.

This is my idea for Server 1:
Buy 4 HDD of 16TB each (link: HDD) to make a NAS server, maybe with FreeNAS. I think I have to install FreeNAS on the SSD, I don't know because I've never done that before.
This server, I want to use it to store all the information they have.

 

Idea for Server 2:
This server has 8 trays for HDD/SSD, and 4 of those are with Seagate Iron Wolf NAS. 
I want to buy another 4 of those, to make a raid 10 of 32TB (32 + 32) and put the SSD with the OS (Ubuntu Server) inside of the server, not in the front where all HDD are.

 

So, the summary is:
Server 1:

• 4 HDD 16TB RAID 0.
• SSD with FreeNAS.

Server 2:

• 8 HDD of 16 TB each. RAID 10 (32 + 32).
• 1 TB SSD Ubuntu Server.

Should I recommend this to my boss? What are your opinions?
