I smudged the pre applied thermal paste on my cpu cooler and I’m not sure if I should just clean it off and re-apply or will it be fine? First build so I’m trying to do it right, I assume everyone is gonna tell me to just clean and re-apply but ya never know. Thanks in advance.

i would say it's fine, since most of the paste gets pushed out the sides anyways

you could clip the opposite side down first so the paste gets mushed towards that direction.

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I highly doubt it will be an issue, but I hope you cleaned up before touching your computer to write this post. Just remember that if you screw your cooler down, and then boot your computer, and then take the cooler off, your thermal paste has been damaged and before you reapply the cooler you will want to clean and reapply new paste.
