Computer won't output 144hz

[HELP]I have a lenovo ideapad s340. It has ryzen5 3500u and vega 8 graphics. I got a 144hz monitor thinking I would get a better pc. That didnt work out. How can I get 144hz from the laptop. I know its not good for the hardware but I want to try it out.

Did you use a display port cable to plug from your laptop to the monitor?
If you used a HDMI cable then it wont shoot out 144Hz and only 60Hz I believe.

You can get 144hz out of hdmi but only 1080p but I think he has older hdmi which only is 60hz
