Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Pure streaming Pc

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 

So i was wondering if my old pc can handle the mighty task of being a streaming pc and what i can use from it...i need a new GPU to go with the new Nvenc encoder i think. Give me your oppinions please and also a capture card option.

that card already has a nvenc encoder, but you should have enough cpu to use the cpu encoder aswell.

 

Try usind ndi to stream the signal from your main pc and see if it works.

 

Should work fine the way it is now.

you could try x264 medium/slow, it should outperform the NVENC on the 970 by a small margin in term of visual clarity

if not, the NVENC is still fine, it's slight better than x264 fast i think(?)

 

that said, why do you need separate streaming PC?

because its in a box gathering dust and i am going to buy a capture card anyway(dont know about that either , so no idea what to buy) because i want to buy the ps5 anyway :D

if you wanna stream from your new PC, could probably just stream and encode locally

if you wanna stream PS5, wouldnt it make more sense to use your new PC, which is stronger than this PC (probably???), to encode it?

Yes i want to stream from the new pc,,has a 2080ti and an i9...can you give me some advice on the capture card...what works the best for both ps and dual pc streaming please?

not too familiar with capture card but i think the go-to is Elgato for most people

there are cheaper capture USB sticks, but those dont do passthrough so i think it's not a viable option for you to stream the consoles.
