Hi all, so I've been working on building a High airflow system, and I have a problem, or maybe not a problem depending on what you guys think lol. So I'm building in a fractal designs meshify case with three intakes up front and an exhaust in the back, my problem is that my bottom intake fan is cut in half by my CPU shroud, and I'm wondering if because of that, my bottom fan isn't actually doing much for my components. if so, do you think if i seal the hole leading into the psu shroud with an angled piece of metal or plastic it will improve the overall airflow of my case? (note i have no clue how aerodynamics works. ive included some pics of my setup, and a diagram of how I think it will work bellow)

but yeah, im just kinda wondering if A: i am wrong and the fan is doing a good job down there as is, and B: if y'all think it would be worth it to plug that gap for my thermal performance. 735264338_computerairflowdiagram.thumb.png.4c2b17161250c6df9f3aab4efebe2caf.png 459850235_pcinsides2.thumb.jpg.aec744cc94ca47659fb39da532a57eb5.jpg1263559867_pcinsides.thumb.jpg.710cf4ca86bd0d5ca5ec1250d32f49eb.jpgd

I would take that bottom fan and put it at the rear top as an exhaust.

doing so wouldn't hurt anything.

But adding a top rear fan would be a good addition. Or move a fan there. if you do move a fan i would shift the front fans down a bit. personally i think this case is best with 2x 140mm intakes. better really, it doesn't matter.

The bottom intake fan at least adds to your positive pressure, but half of it also blows straight towards the bottom of your graphics card, which I think it definitely worth it.

Adding an extra exhaust fan at the top (back) could increase the flow, but you have a massive aircooler, which would block that top exhaust fan quite a bit, so I'm not sure whether that's worth it.

I actually think you should just keep it as is.

untrue

I would argue, but I'd need to draw arrows on a picture, scan it and then post it here. That's too much effort. 🙂

I'll just say this: compared to the parts in the picture, where does the air come from that would get sucked into a top exhaust, and where would it want to go if that top exhaust isn't there? I don't think the top exhaust would do much, other than change the pressure. And I quite like the pressure as is.

Your point about the pressure was my thought exactly! I would prefer to keep my fans where they are, like i said in my question though, what I'm really curious about is if adding a seal between my fan and the shroud gap (because my cables and psu don't really need the direct cooling) with a piece of metal or plastic at an angle, would direct all, (or at least more) of the airflow onto my gpu? fabricating the part isn't a problem for me, I'm just wondering if its worth the time investment lol

It will matter to build a "ramp" to direct airflow, but it's incredibly hard to say to which extent it will matter. Honestly, it might not even be measurable. But hey, why not test as is, then use cardboard and tape it there, then test again? See what difference you see in temps. I think the difference will be minimal, because the air will go where you want it anyway, as the graphics card will suck it in, but it's worth a try if you like tinkering and testing. 🙂

EDIT: I should mention we're talking about a best case scenario. You have one of the best ventilated cases on the market with four good case fans. Also your parts look really solid and well chosen. You'd probably freak out of you saw what I have. 😉
