Worth upgrading RAM?

Go to solution Solved by Moonzy,

honestly, it's not worth your effort to upgrade

not even sure how well skylake/kabylake handle high speed RAM (above 3000mhz? idk)

even if it does take 3600, the performance you can get is not huge enough to justify the cost if you ask me

Iv'e had my computer about 3 years now and I've noticed a bit of a slowdown in general. I Plan on getting a 3080 in a couple months but before that I was thinking about things I should upgrade before that. I built my pc around the time RAM prices were sky rocketing. So I bought Trident Z RGB 16gb 2400 for $220, now I can buy the same kit but with 3600 mhz for $90. I was thinking of doing that, but now I'm wondering if I should even do it in the first place. I have an i7 7700k, I know intel doesn't benefit greatly off ram speeds compared to ryzen but I feel like boosting the speed of my pc. Will it give me a noticable boost in performance ?

DDR4 2400 to DDR4 3600

Here is the ram I plan on getting: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08176RT4G/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_2?smid=A3TOECTKC4OEBD&psc=1

My current specs:

i7 7700k

MSI Z270 Gaming M7

Trident Z 16gb 2400 mhz

RTX 2070 Gaming Z

Sky lake (and kaby lake) don't really benefit that much from faster ram, so the performance difference won't be huge.

Coffee lake does, you could try manually overclocking this one and see how far you can go in terms of frequency and timings.

RAM speed is something to consider when building a PC, not as an upgrade

because you can spend the money elsewhere to get more performance, if u already built it
