So I got a Ryzen 5 3600 on a MSI B450 gaming pro carbon max wifi(compatible with ryzen 3rd gen out of the box) and 16 GB of 8x2 Corsair vengence LPX 3000mhz.

On the first boot I got stuck with the dram led lighting up solid on the motherboard. I let it stay for a maximum of 5 minutes before cutting power and starting to troubleshoot thinking something to be wrong.

Recently I got told that Ryzen 3rd gen has seriously bad memory compatibility issues and the first post might take upto 30 minutes.

How true is this? And should I have given more time than 5 mins to my pc to check if it posts?

System specs:

Ryzen 5 3600

MSI B450 gaming pro carbon max wifi

RTX 2070

16 GB (8x2) Corsair Vengence LPX 3000 Mhz

Corsair CX 650 PSU

That's not correct. The original Zen chips had some memory issues, but Zen 2 has no real issues, unless it's just really high clocks on the DIMMs. 3000Mhz is no issue, for sure. Even then, I've never heard of a 30 minute post in my life. Even the Threadripper chips which take forever to first boot is only like a few minutes.

Since this is a new system, I would go ahead and flash the BIOS to the latest version available if you haven't already. Then, check your mobo manual and ensure that you're installing the DIMMs in the right slots. It's usually slots 2 and 4 counting from the CPU side.

First time boot issues vary and can be quite a pain, bridging clear cmos pins sometimes helps (also remove and reinstall ram, might be poor connection). It's not like a bios update you can shut it down any time without concern of damage.
Not recommended to update bios when having issues due to the possible killing of the mobo.

Since I'll be flashing the bios from usb using bios flashback. Should I remove cpu before flashing the bios?

Well I did all that. Reset CMOS, tried resetting ram and cpu plenty of times. The only thing I didn't try is a new set of ram with my ryzen system (even though mh present set works fine with Intel).

Or could it be a CPU memory controller problem?

You can. Shouldn't matter either way.

Tried booting with each stick in each slot. Didn't work.

Just put in an RMA request for the processor. Guess that's the best way to proceed right now.
