Posted September 5, 2020 Hello! This is my first time here in the forums and I am here because I need your help! I am looking to build a new PC when the 3070 drops as it has been about 6 years since I built my current rig which is fitted with an Intel i5 4690K. I need to know which CPU to pair with a 3070. The options are the AMD Ryzen 7 3800X or the Intel i7 10700K. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. My friends are all AMD fanboys so I am getting a lot of peer pressure to go AMD but would like an outside voice just to make me feel better about the decision. Thank you! Posted September 5, 2020 Are you just gaming? Id say Intel 10600k or 10700, not the 10700k as its almost 120$ more then both the 10600k or the 10700 and performance will be about the same. 3800x isnt worth buying unless its only 10$ more then the 3700x, they are the exact same cpu just one is binned a bit better if you plan to OC at all, although it doesnt always work out that way. Posted September 5, 2020 3800X easy decision, because AMD has a better overall platform. Intel platform lacks the PCIe Gen 4, which could be a bottleneck. Posted September 5, 2020 Usecase? If it’s gaming the 10700k is better, no contest. Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/1243102-i-need-your-help/#findComment-13992084 Share on other sites

You don't or can know that. and heck even nvidia said gen 3 should not be a problem, and a 3080 should not saturate gen 3 x16 bandwidth, only way for us to know is to wait for ampere to actually launch and check. 14 hours ago, psawki said: The options are the AMD Ryzen 7 3800X or the Intel i7 10700K. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated workload? assuming it's just gaming, the 10600k is more than enough and performs similarly as games do not scale up to 8 cores. but strictly between these two and assuming this is a gaming rig, 10700k.
