Graphics problem?

Go to solution Solved by Doktor Mandrake,

I found the culprit. It was the on screen display for the riva tuner statistics server for MSI afterburner. I turned off the osd and now the banding has stoped.

thanks to all who replied to help.

I have a problem with something in my PC. Whenever I play a game or benchmarking software (in windowed or full screen) a portion of the left side of the screen flickers in white bands running the vertical length of the screen left to right. This will not happen if I run valley in open gl but will with either direct x modes. I doesn't however show up when I take a screen shot.

I'm running:

Win 7 64 bit

i5 2500k

ASUS P8Z68V-LX

MSI R9 290

XFX 750W psu

Seagate barracuda 1TB

OCZ vertex 3 60GB

Corsair vengeance 8GB ram

I have tried different graphics drivers, both stable and beta. I have tried a different gpu. I tried running just one 4GB stick of ram and then with the other. I have tried reinstalling directx. I was running my cpu over clocked for months but when this happened I put it back down to stock speeds. I tried a multitude of different cables and a different monitor. I tired using my pci-e 8x but nothing works and I have no idea of what to do next.

I'm thinking I'm needing a new motherboard.

Seeing as it's fine when you take a screenshot, the problem isn't with your computer. You have 2 elements left: the cable and the monitor. First off make sure your cable is connected properly (HDMI, DVI, displayport, whatever you're using) and then try another one. If the cable isn't the problem then it must be your display. Do you have the opportunity to test with another display?

Thanks you for the reply.

I already tried with my 2nd monitor, but I will try with my t.v. now.

Just tried with my t.v. and it does the same thing.

The 'glitch' doesn't show up in screen shots, but it does in recorded game play as a patchwork effect rather than a line.

Definitely try with another cable if your still getting the same results from another monitor.

I already tried with different hdmi cables and vga cables. It was the first thing I done as that's what I hoped was wrong with it. Unfortunately I don't have a dvi or display port cable to try those in the off chance that all my cables are screwed
