updates are required, yes you'd need a Zen 2 CPU and a flash drive, unless your motherboard specifically has a feature that lets you flash without a CPU. What motherboard do you have?

although, AMD has offered a boot kit for every generation of motherboards. When second gen Ryzen arrived, you could get a loaner CPU, same for third gen Ryzen, so I bet when 4th gen Ryzen arrives, AMD will send out loaner CPUs once again if you contact customer support.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

X570 will need a bios update to support the agesa code for zen 2, what board do you have? because if it has a bios flashback button, you could update it without a cpu plugged in.

MSI X570 motherboards are almost all pretty bad, what is the reason you picked that one?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

A lot of boards, budget for a board? the gaming edge is quite subpart and isn't really that good when it comes to the vrm (if you're interested, it's 5 4C029N 5 4C024N  doubled with IR 3598's.), are you limited to this one, and you could also consider some b550 boards, there are some that are pretty good.

It was recommended by best buy, What motherboards would you recommend? And thanks for the info

if you really want an MSI board, the X570 Tomahawk is basically their bast value board. Really high performance power delivery for the CPU at a fairly low price, and decent features at the $200 price point. I generally don't recommend spending over $200 on a motherboard for a gaming PC anyway, especially when B550 motherboards offer PCIe 4.0 for NVMe drives and GPUs as well as good CPU power delivery for much less cost.

Are you buying in the united states?

I will check it out and I seen a video that the x570 boards have more features then the b550 but I am not sure?

Well to recommend some..

As for b550, a pro, strix f, aorus pro, mortar, tuf plus, steel legend, tomahawk are pretty decent.

as for x570 the tomahawk and the tuf are decent and the x570 aorus elite is if you can't get a tomahawk or the tuf.

PC: Motherboard: ASUS B550M TUF-Plus, CPU: Ryzen 3 3100, CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34, GPU: GIGABYTE WindForce GTX1650S, RAM: HyperX Fury RGB 2x8GB 3200 CL16, Case, CoolerMaster MB311L ARGB, Boot Drive: 250GB MX500, Game Drive: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD.

for a gaming PC, this is one of the best value X570 boards you can get

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/McfFf7/asus-prime-x570-p-atx-am4-motherboard-prime-x570-p

it has a strong VRM to handle even a Ryzen 9 easily, but it's not too expensive and you get all the nice X570 features.

the p does not sadly, but the b550 a pro, aorus pro, tomahawk, strix f, mortar, steel legend, all do and the x570 tomahawk does have a bios flashback button and the tuf and the elite do not sadly.

Which motherboard with the flashback feature would you say is the best out all these?

technically, the x570 tomahawk is pretty darn good, using 6 ISL99360's doubled with ISL6617's, but the b550 boards are all decent.
