Are cable extensions bad?

They add another point of contact between two cables, which is another potential point of failure.

It's just not a good idea to use them.

 

In effect it doubles the points of failure.

 

Best to get a full cable kit instead of cheaping out.

Also, the cheapo cables tend to use smaller gauge wire than what the PSU vendor specifies.

Don’t seem to have an issue. 
Don’t feel like making custom cables at the moment so that was the only option.

At some point extension is not enough and you need a signal amplifier, but that is probably not the case here...
