I have a Lenovo Yoga 730 15" with the specs:

i5 8250U

GTX 1050

8 GB RAM

256 GB SSD

I am having a lot of trouble trying to undervolt my cpu. I tried using throttlestop, but all the undervolts i tried to apply took no effect on the cpu. So I searched up some forums, and they said to try intel XTU, which is apparently incompatible with my system. Then I downloaded an older version of XTU, but the cpu voltage offsets were greyed out. Honestly this is so frustrating. How is it that everyone else seems to be doing it so easily on the same cpu when I don't even have the option to? I would appreciate any help.

I've used throttlestop to heavily undervolt my CPU for a long time now. First off, are you running it as an administrator? Second, what do you have selected under "Save Voltage Changes to ThrottleStop.INI" under the "FIVR" tab? Third, do you have it turned on from the main throttlestop window?

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

You want to undervolt a “U” class cpu? That’s already only a 15w chip.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Yup it's run as administrator. Under the Save Voltage Changes I have it set to "Save voltages immediately". Lastly, yes it's turned on. Still not working.

Did you update BIOS recently? Could be Plundervolt patch

@Captiosus In the FIVR window you will probably see that your laptop is Locked. Try installing a previous BIOS version.

The 8th Gen U CPUs are wolfs in sheep's clothing. When properly adjusted, some of them can run way beyond their 15W TDP rating. Undervolting is the first step when trying to maximize performance or minimize heat.

This problem has been her for months, I only just got around to fixing it now. Although I do remember my performance in games dropped around March or April, after a BIOS update.

Yes it does say that the FIVR Control is locked. How would one go about installing a previous version of the BIOS. Sorry I don't know much about this stuff.
