ide to ssd

I picked up a very old Compaq deskpro en the other day..it is in pristine conditon. Do  you think i should be able to hook up a ssd to this device or am I going to run into other unforeseen problems...

If your system is old enough to only have a ide connection, id really try to get something newer. What do you want to use the pc for?

 

Id probably rather get a pci/pcie card if you can.

It would be mostly pointless considering IDE's bandwidth.

It can be done but know they only work with SDD's or HDD's. If you try to hook up an optical drive it won't work, at least the ones I have don't work with it.

You also have to connect it the right way based on what you're using be it from the board's IDE header to a SDD drive or vice-versa, they have to be connected in the right config or it won't work.

I've got two converters like that and while they do work, if possible I'd rather not have to use them.

The current ide drive is 22 years old..an ssd must be a performance upgrade?

what exact model number is it? A good amount of systems I think had a limit of about 146gb.

Yea it would be faster, but what is your goal with that system? Trying to make a vintage system? Id probably just get a better ide drive.
