Hi, I've got 16GB Crucial Ballistix 3000mhz RAM and 8GB is unusable because it's been "hardware reserved" and when I go into the BIOS, it shows DIMMA2 and DIMMB2 both have 8192MB but right above it, Current DRAM size is 8192MB. My processor has 1 pin broken off which I think may be the problem but I'm not sure if that's the problem, thanks.

MB: MSI B450M Mortar Max.

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600.

RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix 3000mhz.

Weird RAM issues and broken CPU pins go hand-in-hand. I would try playing around with which slots your RAM is installed in before completely giving up hope, but I wouldn't be super optimistic either.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

Check if they are both the same configuration (eg single ranked or dual ranked (chips on both sides.) If you've broken a pin off that's not a ground connection, then the entire module is probably toast.

Thanks for the response, I've played with the RAM sticks in different slots and it still says the same thing. Do you think it's the broken pin? Both of the RAM sticks work perfectly when I put them in separately but together it says 8GB is hardware reserved.
