I'm pretty good with intel. i know all the cpus and were they are placed and there sockets and the chipsets to match. but with amd i know nothing so if some one could put the cpus in order of performance and what socket they go in and what chipset they go to that would be very helpful. hopefully that made sense

Another thing to consider is that some of those are Black Edition processors meaning that you can do multiplier overclocking. Don't let that deter you from buying a non-BE chip though since nearly all AMD chips OC well right out of the box.

All FX CPUs have unlocked multipliers.

I have a 8120 at 4.6(can go higher) from 3.2 B)

And yeh all FX are unlocked and OC easily.

FX 4=4 core- 2 Modules

FX 6=6 core- 3 Modules

FX 8=8 core- 4 Modules

Then the number after are 1 for Bulldozer, 3 for Piledriver, then the X0 on the end is the higher for better.

All FX series processors are fully unlocked right out of the box. They were built for overclocking.

I have an 8120 running at 4.0 GHz on the stock cooler.

Amd sticks with the same socket for a really long time, unlike intel coming out with some 4 new sockets each year >_<
