Networked machine for game save locations?

Ok, so I had a thought yesterday while I was playing 7 Days to Die on my laptop, "Could I have a computer setup on my home network and have it host a location for both my computer and laptop to access the same game save files and update it?"
Now, my thought when I tried thinking about it was, a computer on the network hosting a file share, with the game save located on the file share. The laptop and computer then each have a shortcut for the game save in their game folders. Then hopefully, anything you do in the save on the laptop, gets carried over onto the computer, because technically, both machines are accessing the same files and editing the same files.

Does anyone have any idea on if this would work? Sorry to anyone I possibly forget to respond to, I have bad habits when it comes to responding.

yes you can.

mount the network drive on both pc and then use symlink on the save folder.

First I've heard of Symlink. Is there any known problems with it when using it over ethernet/wifi?

 

Basically one machine is my laptop, using wifi. The other two using ethernet.

 

Or other known problems in general? Or a reliable link to a good guide on it? Anything I can find out and learn at the moment will help a lot...
