8Gb on a laptop worth it?

Mao_Zedong
Go to solution Solved by dizmo,

Absolutely yes. I have 4gb and it hits 100% usage daily.

Something to keep in mind is that if it has integrated graphics it's gonna borrow a good chunk of you RAM when needed.

I would say no.

4GB should be plenty for you.

You're buying a laptop with a low end pentium processor, regular HDD (no ssd),and integrated graphics.going up to 8GB of ram won't make a difference in the performance of the laptop since it'll be held back by the other specs.

I mean if it were even an i3 then I'd say depending on what you do it might be worth it,but considering the other specs you'd be better off adding $70-100 to find a laptop with all around better specs.

Also how much are you paying for it,we could try to help you find a better alternative.

what about this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834258337

or this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834313718

6GB ram,an AMD APU,which at this price point is a better option due the the better integrated graphics and,as far as I know, better processing power than the pentium series of processor, and a 500GB or 750GB HDD.

One more thing, I may add a 120 Gb or more ssd in a year. Do standard desktop SSDs work in laptops?

provided there's space in the laptop for an SSD.

@ I contacted HP support and they said that there is definitely not enough room allocated for both an HDD and SSD,which is to be expected in this form factor.

i meant replace the hdd with the ssd, not have both. On my desktop I only use around 150Gb of my 500gb ssd. (My Dad's old ssd he gave to me for free)
