Hi

I need help with building a new pc. I'm a full-time day trader and I put very heavy loads on my machine with multiple trading platforms open at once with live data updating charts and quotes, etc., running other multiple programs, a screen capture recording 2 screens during market hours, and I always have at least 30 chrome tabs open all the time. I’m a very heavy multitasker and put heavy loads on my machine. I will not be using this PC for gaming. It’s strictly a work PC for heavy multitasking and stock market trading.

If this helps the trading programs I use are Think or Swim, Scanz, Stocks To Trade, and Etrade Pro.

I don't know if anything in the build below is overkill like the 3950x cpu or the 64gb in memory. Also, any input on anything in the build would be much appreciated.

Also, if this helps here are some screen shots of my current machine to give an idea how the CPU and RAM looks.

Below are 2 screenshots with 3 images. Each link shows the CPU and RAM performance tab, and the processes tab displaying the programs running. The first link is normal load and the second is high.

Normal load https://imgur.com/a/7eXCOJJ

High load Spikes 4-5 minutes while opening 21 Chrome Tabs at once. https://imgur.com/a/7fvuwkR

Thanks so much for your help.

Thanks so much for your help.

Chrome is a memory hog. The longer you leave tabs open the more memory it will eat. 4 apps would mean 4/8 per app which should be plenty. Might get away with a 3900 so 2/4 per app.  I’m tempted to put you in a low end threadripper not for more cores but for more memory.

This build should chew through anything you want except games.  It’s actually kind of crap for games.  I don’t know if you actually need this much memory but arranging for more is complicated.  It’s actually higher end than you describe.  This would be a build for highest end spreadsheet work or program compiling.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
