Hi,

I've been struggling with performance problems on my PC.  I've basically replaced every component in it at this point, and reinstalled Windows -- the problem still persists, and I'm now wondering if this is a systemic problem that has a well-known fix, and I just haven't found it.

The issue manifests in a couple of ways depending on the game.  In Overwatch, the video just freezes for a couple of seconds.  The game continues to run, and my character usually just keeps running in whatever direction it last had a keypress.  Music continues playing, etc, so it's not a hard system lock.  In Path of Exile, this is typically manifests as several seconds of really low framerates, but the character is always controllable, just maybe slow because of the frame render times being so long.

Hardware replaced:

  • CPU (Current is Intel i7-10700K)
  • Motherboard (Current is Asus ROG STRIX Z490)
  • RAM (32GB installed)
  • PSU (Current is EVGA 850W)
  • GPU (Current is EVGA RTX2080Ti)
  • HDD: Western Digital NVME 2TB
  • DisplayPort Cables
  •

Current Windows Version: Windows 10 Pro 2004

No overclocks have been in place while trying to troubleshoot this problem, and this CPU/Board/RAM has never been overclocked (since I replaced it).

Things running.  These are things I typically have open, and need to be open because I don't want to need to open and close them every time I launch a game.

  • Slack
  • Hyper-V (Docker, will be idle during gaming)
  • Chrome
  • The usual suspects: Steam, Origin, Twitch)

Things tweaked:

  • Windows set to custom power scheme, denying any device the ability to go low power / idle
  • C-States disabled in BIOS
  • Adaptive Tick Disabled
  • DDU used several times to clean drivers
  • Many other things I've probably forgotten

Open to any and all suggestions, as I'm really wanting to get this issue finally sorted out.
