I have been running my water-cooled reference SFX RX 480 for like 4 or 5 years now and just bought an Asus RX 5700 XT ROG strix and I'm waiting on a water block in the mail for it. But when it gets here I'm changing out the case and the whole waterloop.

If I have both cards installed and run like 3D mark or like doom will the 480 cause my system to suck compared to only running the 5700xt?

Is there a way to tell games and stuff to only use the 1 card and ignore the other one? I do know that the card installed in the top PCI x16 slot is the primary because I've run 2 random cards before and nothing would come out of the card in the lower PCI slots outputs.

I want to set my old 480 to mine etherium classic since electricity is free and it still works fine. And I can configure the miner to only use that 1 card.

I just don't want games and performance to suffer because I have 2 very different cards in my system

I don't really care about the ROI, since I've had the card so long I've gotten it's money's worth out of it. But for the curious including the water block it was $350 and the ROI would be 347 days. Again I don't care about that it's just free money.

Like I said I can mine on only the 480 and I can easily select that in the config file for Phoenix miner. That's not my main question.

How do I tell games and stuff to ignore the 480? I don't want to CrossFire them I just want 2 cards in my system while games only acknowledge the 5700xt.

Wont have to tell the games anything. They will use the card that the monitor is plugged into. Simple as that. They wont even know its there. Same with every multi card setup ever.

Thats only if youre in some sort of use case thats attempting to run them together. Which isnt gonna work for those cards anyway.
