But putting in a hub as an extender is asking for problems as that is just another failure point. If they are Ok doing fiber then do fiber. What type of conduit is in the ground?

It's just like a plastic pipe that data cables can be run through. However, power mains generate much more interference than your household wiring.

The copper would be run about 6 inches away from a heavily used 400A electrical service line. I'm worried that this will cause a lot of interference or reduce the distance I can run. Is that true or is it ok. And I don't see how running copper will reduce the cost that much.

It is conceivable that you'll get interference. You could always test it with an insulated Cat 6a cable at gigabit speeds. 100m of cable doesn't cost that much, so I'd actually give it a test. If you encounter problems, then go with fibre.

You want to be using STP copper cable it will protect the cable from electrical interference.

I wasn't sure if the high amperage line would be able to penetrate the shielding. What are the necessary components for running STP like connectors, how to terminate, etc. And do you need special switches. Would this cabling do the job.

I will also have to terminate the cable in a humid environment with potential hose watering on it to be under 100m. Are there NEMA rated enclosures that can be used for termination boxes?

Ok, so if I try that, the 500 foot reel of shielded Cat 6a is about $200. All the other components will be the same to make sure that if it doesn't work I will be able to run fiber. The preterminated fiber will be $500 plus $60 for transcievers. I don't know if that is worth it or not.

I don't know either. You can't get a 100m reel, they only have 500ft? That's a lot more than you seem to need.

Don't know, didn't look real hard, bulk seems to come in 500 or 1000 foot in the US and I have to do in building runs anyway.

Since you're upgrading due to new construction, you might as well future proof it by running fibre. If you can afford it and know how to get it working well, then just go for it.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking since it is new and there are so many potential issues with running copper.
