I currently have a LattePanda Alpha that is struggling to play PS2 games, and I want to do an upgrade. (BTW, I can't recommend the LattePanda enough, it's great). Here's my situation: I need a PC that can run PS2 and Wii flawlessly, preferably at 1080p. I need to start out with a CPU that has integrated graphics, and in a month I will be getting an RTX 2080 for free to add to the system. So, assuming the system will eventually have discreet graphics, which CPU is the best value? The 9100 has better core-for-core performance, is cheaper, and can be paired with a cheaper Mobo (needs to be ITX). The 3400g, while slower, has much better longevity and support thanks to AM4, higher RAM speeds, and PCI-E 4.0.

I'm probably thinking about this too hard. Please help.

Honestly if you're pairing a 2080 with those cpu's.

But if you really need an i-gpu.

3400g, the 9100's i-gpu isn't even close to Vega 11.

And the 3400g is a better cpu either way.

PC: Motherboard: ASUS B550M TUF-Plus, CPU: Ryzen 3 3100, CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34, GPU: GIGABYTE WindForce GTX1650S, RAM: HyperX Fury RGB 2x8GB 3200 CL16, Case, CoolerMaster MB311L ARGB, Boot Drive: 250GB MX500, Game Drive: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD.

Peripherals: GK61 (Optical Gateron Red) with Mistel White/Orange keycaps, Logitech G102 (Purple), BitWit Ensemble Grey Deskpad.

Audio: Logitech G432, Moondrop Starfield, Mic: Razer Siren Mini (White).

Phone: Pixel 3a (Purple-ish).

I guess I could also sell the 2080 when I get it and buy something cheaper, making a profit. If I did this, what GPU would you recommend?

Well, You could also save up for a higher-end CPU like the 3600 or something instead. Depends what you're doing really. It's pretty hard to bottleneck a modern CPU, and I don't think that either the 9100 or 3400g will significantly bottleneck the 2080.

I am NOT a professional and a lot of the time what I'm saying is based on limited knowledge and experience. I'm going to be incorrect at times.

Single core performance is better on i3

No it isn't? They're super similar and in games where they will benefit from more threads.

The 9100 will struggle a lot, and the Vega 11 is significantly better than the one on the 9100.

Would probably wait and check.

But for now the 3400g is better.

Emulation is notorious for being CPU heavy. PCSX2, for instince, actually runs a little slow on the 3400g if it's not paired with a discreet GPU.

Not mentioning the CPU destroys intel's lmao

I've been leaning towards the 3400g as well. Just the fact I can upgrade it to a 3600 or a cheaper 4000 series chip when those release means I don't really have to worry about choosing wrong.

Yea if you really need an apu right now. You could sell it and get some money back and then get a 3600 or a better cpu.

3400g is still zen+ (12nm) and not zen 2 (7nm),

Very well aware of that.

And the 9100 will struggle a lot and will lack threads in a lot of workloads.

Ipc on the 3400g is still decent.

Well, it's faster than my i7 3770 which is even capable of 1080p ultra gaming with stable 60+ fps

TechSpot - 9100F vs 1600AF

It is slower than the original Ryzen 5 1600 at basically everything including most games in the test, mostly because it is a 4c/4t CPU. Your 3770 probably still is a better gaming CPU than the 9100, because hyperthreading is basically a requirement to get decent frametimes for a lot of games when using quad-core CPUs.
