Looking for an encrypted email service that works for deep, dark or surface web. Ive been looking at Proton, CTemplar, Lavabit and others, but because I don't know much about these services I haven't subscribed yet. Ive read about having servers in Iceland, which have extreme security laws and would like a service, that had something like this. Ive read so many different choices but have no idea where to start.

Just look up on their website about how exactly it works. They explain it better than I would.

My experience is this : modern and intuitive enough interface, can be used for free if you must, never had any sort of issues with it and I used it pretty much from it's launch in 2014. Paid version is priced reasonably imho and Swiss privacy laws are very strict, no wiggle room there.

Also I would think twice before using a service based in the US like Lavabit,(yes, I know their history) laws in the US aren't known to be that reasonable and their law enforcement agencies can really twist your arm if they need to. Yes, everything technically can be hacked with enough resources and time, and if you were working with really sensitive stuff you wouldn't be asking this here, but why risk it by using a USA based service when there are other options?

Also, point for Proton : banned in Russia, that means it works :D
