Hi!

I will buy a R710 in the coming future and discovering the world of servers in my research for the best and worthy parts i should get. As we all know, ram comes in different sizes and speed and i see i have few options:

PC3L-8500R   ~ 1066 Mhz

PC3L-10600R ~ 1333 Mhz

PC3L-12800R ~ 1600 Mhz

PC3L-14900R ~ 1866 MHz

the price of the 1866 compared to the 1066 should be near 40% more.

I searched on the internet to find something about differences but nothing better than i expected: the bigger frequency is the better. But how much better? Does anyone have a benchmark or something like this so i could compare the cheapest vs the most expensive?

I know in games your gain would be of near 1% more but i`d like to know if is something noticeable even for a server.

What is your plan with the R710?  Did you look up the specs on the R710?  I'd stick with the memory that ships with the unit, most likely 1333Mhz and look to expand capacity if it doesn't meet your current needs.

Home Lab: pi-hole, dns server, maybe plex, freenas/samba, a minecraft server, a gaming vm (i will cut open the pci-e x8 install a 980ti) and more projects that i might consider. I was thinking about first buying in the first instance 4x4gb ram and then expand when the need comes. I looked up on ebay for r710 and most of them come with 1333 they are not really that worthy(300$ for something i can make better from a local seller). I have a local seller that sells tons of those and i get as many details i want in matter of minutes, compared to ctoservers that don`t reply even after months.

Do you know any difference in server performance when changing from 1000mhz to 1600mhz ?
