System Image backup drive: raid1 or single disk

Hi guys, i've got a single 1tb NVME (Sabrent Rocket) ssd and a 1tb Sata2 HDD (Barracuda 5400rpm) in my system that I've been booting my games from. I've realised I'm not using the storage space on my NVME drive for as much work as I originally intended and my games library isn't actually that big, so I'm going to move my games over to the NVME drive and use the HDD for regularly scheduled system image backups.

Being that sata 2 sucks, 1tb of sata 3 HDD storage is pretty cheap and that this will be main system backup drive:

Is it worth me coughing up a little extra for two new sata 3 drives and running them in raid 1 for redundancy

Should I run a single new sata 3 drive because the redundany is pointless

Should I just risk running my ~10 year old sata 2 drive and not bother with any new drives.

 

I'm mostly paranoid about the endurance of the NVME if it is used a lot for gaming and a small amount of video editing.

You don't have to worry about the endurance of the NVME drive. It's probably more reliable than any HDD due to no moving parts.

 

As for whether you want your backup to have redundancy, it depends on how precious your data is to you. I back up my data on a RAID 1 NAS, because I have some things that I'd really rather not lose. Given that HDDs are pretty cheap, it's probably worth it.
