Need To Upgrade CPU, Question on Compatibility

Bigbg

Hey all! I believe my CPU has bricked. My computer turns on and stays on for about 10-20 seconds before turning off and then gets stuck in a loop. No display is shown on either of my monitors. I have tried different ram setups with my 8x2 kit and an extra 8 GB spare stick I had laying around. I also tried taking out the CMOS battery and trying to reset that way and nothing happened.

With this troubleshooting I’m pretty sure it is my CPU but could be a motherboard issue as well. Anyways, my current CPU is a Ryzen 5 1600 and I want to upgrade to a 3600. Now my real question comes from whether it would work with my motherboard without needing to update the BIOS. My current motherboard is a ASRock B350 Pro4.

Thanks everyone! Hope this makes sense and I hope someone can help!

No sadly, you will need to update the bios to support zen 2's agesa code.

do you have time in those 20 seconds to get into bios and check what bios version you are on?

honestly, to me it doesn't sound like a cpu issue. if the cpu was dead, you wouldn't get those 10-20 seconds. it would just not start at all.

Yeah that’s what it seemed like from my googling.

It could be PSU but I don’t think it is. I can check it on a friends setup and I think I have an old one lying around as well though just to make sure.

Sadly I don’t have any time since nothing is displayed, but it is definitely an old version.

Other than mobo do you have any other ideas?

i have my doubts on the psu surely then...... rosewill isnt a brand with good reviews... try borrowing a psu from an another pc , or a friends and try if that fixes the problem otherwise it might be a problem with the mobo
