What's wrong with it?

It's not a real GTX 1050. It's probably some older card like a GTX 200 series, if that, that's had a fake VBIOS flashed to it to make it look like that in windows. If you really want to get it working, you might be able to take the cooler off and look at the part number on the die and it will tell you what it is. IMO it's not worth the effort, just try and find another one.

Refurbished or did you get it new?

Graphics card came with it or did you add it?

GPU take a power connection or not?

I got it used on eBay, I added the graphics card which I got supposedly new on eBay, and no the GPU does not take a power connection.

Download GPUZ and install it and post a screen shot so we can see exactly what the GPU is etc.

Download and install DX11 64 bit.

https://directx12download.com/dx11-feature-level-10-0-download/

After that try and reinstall the drivers again.

Did the card ever work correctly?

Or was this the 1st time you tried to use it?

Actually I see what you're saying now but it's covered by thermal compound.  Should I just try to rub it off to see the numbers?

Yes, It will be underneath. The number will probably be a G[another letter]-10X or something similar. That card is pretty old though looking at it's output on the back.
