Weird GPU fan problem?

Thanks for the reply! I made a thorough research with the "PSU CLICK" both old and new forum users report that the sound comes from the "relay switch" which is normal and that some PSU models do make that noise. What's weird is the fan spin... really odd. However, your reply should be the answer I am looking for.

No problem, It does sound like a relay in the vid, I just hadn't heard it in a PSU before. If you have another PSU in another system on hand then swapping it would be an easy way to verify.

Hello everyone! I recently upgraded from an Asus strix GTX 960 4gb card to a Galax RTX 2060 SUPER EX white edition card. The most unusual behavior I have noticed from this card is when everytime I shut down my PC, the right fan spins literally for like a second. This happens in conjunction with my PSU "shifting its relay switch" with a click noise. It is a Corsair RM 750X V2 80+ gold psu. I did not notice my old 960 doing the same. It is as if there is mini-second surge of power before shut off because I can hear my headphones sound "pop" and other case fan leds glow bright during this second also.

I am really really concerned especially about the gpu fan. Can this damage my gpu overtime? Please help. I already re-seatted everything. It's just when the PSU flips the switch to turn itself off there's like a second spike of power.

I have never heard of a PSU being audible before outside of fan noise (or catastrophic failure). If the PSU is going then it could potentially damage your whole system. I am unfamiliar with how the RTX 2060 is set up but if the fans are using power from different sources then I would guess that the one spinning is being powered directly by the PSU connector on the card and could be indicating that at least one 12v rail is surging on  shutdown. I don't know how urgent it is but I would replace your PSU sooner then later. If you have a multimeter you might be able to unplug your psu from your card and see it surge on the multimeter to verify.

Good luck!

I think I found the "residual juice" causing the surge. It's from corsair!!! https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/new-power-supply-clicks.3261709/ this explains everything.

That's interesting, being on 5v means that that fan is being powered from the PCIe slot in the motherboard and switching over to something other then off would mean that the surge might be considered normal behavior. I would  reach out to corsair and ask if a surge in your sound chip and GPU are normal when that relay switches. Either way, thanks for sharing.

another user who also uses a corsair psu stated that his speakers also has the same "sound discharge" during shut off.
