Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of a GPU to upgrade to for my current build? I'm relatively satisfied with its performance, but it'd be nice to get some more frames on newer qualities at higher qualities. Mainly, I'm kind of confused when it comes to how exactly vRAM and clock speeds affect GPU performance and what the best way to balance them is. My setup currently is:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
  • MSI RX 570 ARMOR 8G OC
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 16gb 3200MHz (2 x 8gb)
  • Gigabyte P650B 80+ bronze
  • LG 24MP59G-P 23.8" 1920x1080 75 Hz (planning on upgrading soon to 144Hz)

I don't really want to do 4k; my aim is to be able to run some newer games with some decent frame rates (60+) at high or ultra settings.

I had been looking at the MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GAMING X 6G GDDR6, but I'm not too sure how much of a performance difference I'll see or if the price matches the performance.

it's difficult to tell based on specs alone. vram and frequency are just part of the story. what people usually forget to take into account is number of cores.

anyway, the current gpu line-up on the market is this:

rx570<1650 super=rx5500xt<1660<1660super<1660ti<rx5600xt=2060<rx5700=2060super=2070<5700xt<2070super=2080<2080super<2080ti

for 1080p 144hz, i'd go up to max rx5700 level, the you go into 1440p territory.
