Hey I was wondering if anyone had any good tips when it comes to the error message "USB Over Current Detected. Computer Will Shut Down In 15 Seconds" I have striped down the computer to its essential operating components and have determined that it must be a USB on the actual motherboard. I anyone has any info that might help me get the computer running again it would be much appreciated because at this point I am about to just buy a new motherboard.

Thank you!

I haven't seen this error message in ages. Did you build this computer yourself? How long ago did it start? Any particular system change prior to it happening?

It was originally built by someone else but I decided to put in a cpu liquid cooler and change out the case for something that would fit it. Unfortunately I did not test the computer to see if it was working before I took it apart but to my knowledge it was. So either I did something while making the transfer or it was busted when I got it.

Four thoughts that come to mind are:

  1. You may have left a standoff installed under the motherboard.
  2. You may have jammed the rear I/O shield into a USB port.
  3. The front USB ports could be defective and need to be unplugged from the motherboard.
  4. The board itself could be defective.

If the bios detects something that isnt there, the board has an issue or the bios has an issue.

Try and flash the bios, or do a bios recovery then update it.

I have heard that a bios update could fix the problem however that is one aspect that of computers that I am not well versed in. If you know of a good video I could watch that would help a ton thank you for the help so far!

Most bios flash procedures are very simple and straight forward.

Read your manual on the subject first, then the website or visa versa.

If you still need help, watch a video.

Should be ok.
