Hi, I have a little question that hopefully the ltt community can answer. So, I have 8gb of 3000mhz ram in my build. I really want to upgrade to 16gb of the same speed. The ram I have is by a company called Oloy. I contacted them and asked if they would sell me 8gb of the same module. (They currently do not produce this model.) They said if I bought a new set, they would give me half off if I sent back my old module. So half of $53 (which is the price of 16gb) is around $27. The 8gb module I purchased before was 39. Recently a sale for Xpg Gammix d30 (I think) was put up for only $50. If I buy the Xpg I can keep my 8gb and have 24gb. I would use all of this but I only have 2 dimm slots. I am planning to upgrade the mobo soon so I will have 4 dimm slots. So the question is 24gb for around 90, or 16gb for 67. I don’t think I could sell the oloy ram because it’s unknown l, but the gammix I could sell. Would three sticks of ram run well?

That's a bit of a gray area. I've seen systems run fine with 3 sticks (though you really shouldn't on a dual channel motherboard) and I've seen systems not POST until the random 3rd stick was removed.

I would stick with 2x8GB unless I had then funds to step up to 2x16GB or 4x8GB if your setup doesn't support 16GB sticks.

What motherboard do you have?

I have the AsRock b450m hdv r4.0. Would you recommend buying the unknown brand? There pretty good so far but I don’t know.

What would you do price wise?

Personally I'd stick with brands I know and trust but that's up to you.

That's up to your budget. If you have the cash to spend I'd go for the XPG then use the Oloy as a spare.
