A bit out of touch with the HDD market, as I haven't bought one since... 2015?

Needs:
- 7200RPM

- 6TB

Use: Archival storage (dumping files to, very occasionally retrieving from).

Budget: < $100

Honestly just look for good reviews, and make sure whatever you buy doesnt have SMR, especially for a drive of that size. Sometimes they wont even say if it has it, do googling to make sure. I know I didnt suggest anything specific, SMR is just a good thing to look out for right now so I thought Id warn you. WD and Seagate have been putting it in NAS drives.

For a 6TB drive it's going to be more than $100 probably closer to $125 for anything decent

For just archiving SMR won't impact performance and the lower price helps.

Doesnt it make it drastically more prone to failure? Or do I need to check the source where I read that?

No, just slower.

SMR drives used to be sold specifically for archival purposes until recently manufacturers started making consumer SMR drives to save a buck.
