Can anyone explain this?

My friend's screen has been going black and the windows stretch out and his YouTube videos constantly flicker and freeze. He also can see weird dashes, lines and dots on his screen. It is not his monitor and he has reset windows but the problem persists.

Has he tried reinstalling the video driver? Reinstalling windows? Seems to be a video card problem.

Yes he has. We think it might be his GPU core.

i wouldn't conclude so fast. 

 

You should try another gpu in the system and the gpu in another system. Also does this only happen in chrome? or also in other applications. Chrome seems to be doing weird stuff sometimes

Those lines are a dead ringer for GPU data corruption in-buffer.

 

The slot could be giving a bad connection, the video card could be overheating, but most likely the gpu is fried.  Try another GPU or onboard video if it exists, just to be sure.  Prepare to RMA or replace video card.
