I've been having this crazy buffering, where my fps rapidly spikes between 144 (my cap) and 2 fps, this happens in every game, and is happening to a lesser extent in other applications like google chrome, like when I'm watching YouTube

My PC specs are:

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600

GPU: Rx 580 8gb

RAM: 2x8 gb 3000 mhz

Storage: 240gb ssd, 1tb hdd

Motherboard: Gigabyte B450m ds3h

not really sure what it could be, it started yesterday, and I've tried checking for viruses, and updating drivers to no avail. I did recently update windows 10 to the latest version, because my audio wasn't working properly, which fixed that problem, and that may be the cause? I'm not sure. Any ideas would be helpful

edit: I forgot to add, my temps are all very normal, since I have an AIO and no overclocking

There isn't even an fps counter in the video... honestly it looks too good to be extreme as you call it...

I have had grey out screen(overheating) in a middle of shooter game and still managed to get kills.

As always I would suggest limiting the fps at highest stable number you can get. Check if your internet connection is working properly...

Have you checked your ping whilst in game? I have nearly the exact same system as you, and my biggest issue in CS is my internet cutting out or ping spiking up because the internet at my house sucks

If its not this, perhaps try reinstalling your GPU drivers

The highest stable number for me right now is 5 fps... the reason this is an issue is because it just started happening yesterday, and is out of the ordinary for the power of my hardware. Also including a better video with afterburner once it starts acting up again (the issue is happening for 30 mins, and then it disappears for like 30 minutes)

What are temps like?

gpu maxes around 60c with csgo max settings, 144fps 1080p

cpu staying pretty firm around 50c

Ping is typically between 20-60, also tried resetting modem/router and updating firmware on it, no difference

Check your background apps and check to make sure there is not multiple drivers installed for the audio and others.  If you're using a launcher for the game then try updating it also.

how do I check for multiple drivers? It's not the launcher, because I'm having trouble in r6, youtube, fortnite, and overwatch aswell.

Check the hardware manager list for any flagged items and duplicates.  There is also a program touted on ltt called DDU, look into that and how to use it to reset the display driver.
