Which has better stereo imaging (for HRTF), M40x or M50x?

WaseemW

Which of these 2 would be better for games that use HRTF audio? I can also buy different earpads if needed (like the brainwavz angled pads everyone keeps talking about)

I've looked into other options such as the DT 770, but they are either unavailable or overpriced in my country. And I can't use open backs because I live with my uni roommates and they usually play or watch tv/netflix/etc so there's almost always noise.

I know both options aren't optimal, but I'm neither strictly competitive, nor casual, rather something in between, so I think these should do fine as long as I can roughly tell where the footsteps/shots are coming from.

Right now I have an old Edifier W830BT, music is fine on it, I use it in wired mode, and I more often than not I can not or can barely tell where the direction of the enemies are in games so that's the main reason I want to upgrade

Thanks!

the m40x not only has a slightly wider soundstage but its also a flatter sounding headphone making it overall better for gaming especially if you use the money you save from not buying the m50x to buy hm5 angled pads. but honestly if you can find the takstar pro 82 or a cooler master mh 751/752 those would be better for gaming overall.

Hello and welcome.

I can say changing the cups on my m40 made them sound garbage for gaming.  With the stock replacements they're wonderful.  The added distance from the ears leads to a lot of sound cues getting lost.
