Hi Linus Tech tips. Huge fan.

I am facing this issue since I build my mid tier gaming pc 2 years ago. Whenever I open task manager it will show 100 percent cpu usage for a second or 2 before dropping to 20- 40. Also if i keep a sharp eye while opening task manager i can see its "System interupts " that take 99 percent cpu usage before reducing to 20 -40. Is it normal. What is causing this. Am very confused.

My build

AMD Ryzen 5 Apu

Nvidia GeForce 1070 ti founders edition

16 gb gskill rgb ram

WD 256 gb m.2 for windows

128 gb ssd for downloads

5 tb hardrive(combined) for games and other data.

Also if you can suggest some tips to increase my performance.

Just a For My Information question- Recently saw your video regarding using m.2 as cache. Eill it be useful if i use my m.2 as cache and boot from my ssd keeping my hdd only for games and other files.

Thanks in advance

that's because task manager is loading, the readings are inaccurate

i would just use it as a regular storage

unless you want to cache your HDD, then that's fine too

using it as a regular storage allows you to pick what gets to be on there though

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I suspect the spike you are seeing is just that - a spike caused by opening the program - and isn't indicative of a constant load on the CPU.  To verify this, you could look at temperatures and power consumption to verify that they are the same with and without task manager open.  You could also attempt to rule out malware that's hiding its behaviour by pausing execution when it detects task manager has been opened by trying a different system monitoring tool.

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
