Macbook storage issue

My macbook has no storage left. It says that the system part of the macbook is 105 gb and my max storage is 120 gb. Is this adnormal? What is causing this issue. I literally have no storage for anything and it's making me confused. Thank you for your help!

Can you please post a screen shot of the storage section? You can get to it by: pressing apple in the top left > About this mac > click on the button that says storage.

Yes, drives have formatting space that is taken out of the total storage amount. The only way to get more storage is to get external storage.

I would say yes that is abnormal, the system size will grow over time based on various usage; eg old updates, only itunes files, various other caches, with over a year of usage my mac is only at 32 gb for the system size. I would recommend opening About This Mac > Storage > Manage and see if you can clear some space that way. Else you may need to use a 3rd party tool like cleanMyMac (may others I don't know). Worst case scenario you will need to back up your data and reinstall macOS.
