Can you please post a screen shot of the storage section? You can get to it by: pressing apple in the top left > About this mac > click on the button that says storage.

 

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

I would say yes that is abnormal, the system size will grow over time based on various usage; eg old updates, only itunes files, various other caches, with over a year of usage my mac is only at 32 gb for the system size. I would recommend opening About This Mac > Storage > Manage and see if you can clear some space that way. Else you may need to use a 3rd party tool like cleanMyMac (may others I don't know). Worst case scenario you will need to back up your data and reinstall macOS.
