Looking for a new CPU

Hello there. Today is my birthday today and I've decided to gift myself a new CPU as my i5-7500 doesn't cut it anymore when paired with my 2070 SUPER and 1440p 165hz display. I'm not sure what too get. I would like to future proof and be able too use my 2070 Super too it's fullest.

Happy Birthday!

Like said above, pretty much the best bang for your buck cpu and motherboard combo is the 3600 with a b450 tomahawk max.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

How overkill would a 3900 be? Is it worth the wait for 4000 series?

For gaming only, very overkill. If you can wait a few months it will most likely be worth it.

If you are looking to go a bit more expensive than what the 3600 and b450 tomahawk max currently is, you could get the 4700x when it comes out and pair it will a msi mag b550 tomahawk.

I believe it is around 30-40% increase but I’m not 100% sure what the most recent leak is.

I think the latest one is 20% IPC increase. No die shrink I believe either.

I'd recommend a 3700X + B550 A-Pro! Currently, the 3700X is at a killer price ($280 compared to the original $329) and it dips even lower sometimes!

Current System: Ryzen 7 3700X, Noctua NH L12 Ghost S1 Edition, 32GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz, MAG B550i Gaming Edge, 1TB WD SN550 NVME, SF750, RTX 3080 Founders Edition, Louqe Ghost S1
