AUDIO SETUP IDEAS

NzStumpyTech

Hi,

I have a 2.1 sub system hooked up to the motherboard.....

The "hiss" is starting to grind my grits - wondering would i be able to get  better quality by installing a sound card or some kind of other option to go in between the sound system and the pc?

Or should i simply shell out for a "quality" AUX cable (which are a stab in the dark as to if they are actually quality or not)

A decent audio interface or dedicated DAC - something like a Behringer UMC202HD or UMC22 (cheaper option, but may have some more noise) would clean that output up quite well, along with giving you an ADC for use with mics and stuff.

But you might want to take a stab at changing the settings in the ASUS Audio panel relating to impedance to see if the issue goes away - could be set too high or too low.

idk

ground loops could help - that's worth a stab too. but I think it's a misconfiguration - usually these things shouldn't have a hum unless they're manufactured incorrectly.

idk

I moved my router which got rid of the tick and interference noise, just the background hiss which is bugging the shiz out of me now lol

Those ferrite loop things do nothing, you can get real ground loop removers but they aren't it. You need to figure out where the hiss is coming from, whether it's the amplifier itself or your computer, if it's the speakers a DAC won't help whereas if it's the computer an external audio device may help.

Yea see its not just the pc ones but i've got my old 2.1 unit hooked up to my bedroom tv and i get the same hiss from my bookshelves hooked up to the tv..... thats why i wonder if it is just the hiss of speakers turned up that i'm just going to have to live with.
