Xbox One Optical Drive Replacement

So I am helping a buddies kid out, and hes having an odd thing happen.

When hes playing games off disc in his Xbox One after a few minutes the audio cuts out.

It only happens when he is playing a game off a disk. When he is playing a game he downloaded (We tested with Cuphead...) the problem doesn't come up. 

Now I can get a replacement, thats nbd but if I swap the logic board (because the drive would need to be flashed to the consoles security codes and apparently that cant be done) and the issue persists I have wasted a drive. 

Anyone ever have the same issue? I'm half tempted to give the kid my Xbox One but if I can avoid it, ya know. 

Stupid Microsoft making this simple repair a pita. 

 

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
