I am trying to duplicate my 1080p 144hz monitor on a 1080p 60hz TV while i game. But when i do that, the game on my main display doesn't run at 144hz. Even though the fps count says 144, i can tell that it's not at 144hz because it is a lot less smoother. It looks like the TV is limiting the monitor. I was wondering if someone could find a solution for this and help me out.

Thanks

When duplicating displays Windows usually limits them to the same refresh rate, if one is 60hz then it will limit the faster one to that as well. If you were to extend the displays then it should allow for separate refresh rates on either. I found this on reddit from 1 year ago so it may or may not work.

"Yes there is a way, and there are drawbacks. I spent waaay too long trying to figure it out.

First make sure you set them to the proper refresh rate. Then clone the displays through control panel and not through windows settings.

Then head to Adjust Desktop Size and resolution and set them both to: scaling mode - Fullscreen, Scaling on GPU, and then both of their respective hz.

Lastly, you may head to change resolution and it should say both are at 144hz even if the TV is at 60hz.

The downside? Windows will behave like 60hz with it’s animations. Applications will run at 144hz however. Hope this helps."

Ok I tried what you said in NVIDIA control panel, it tells that both displays are 144hz, but when I run a game (Valorant) the gameplay is not at 144hz. The in game FPS counter shows 144hz and the NVIDIA FPS counter shows 144hz also.

Is it NVIDIA control panel or Windows control panel?

Nvidia control panel I'm guessing. I found these steps on reddit so I'm not positive.

What? If the ingame counter and Nvidia FPS counter says you're getting 144fps then you are getting that. What makes you think it's not working?

When i play with PC screen only its waaaaaaay smoother, but when i put duplicate it's like playing on 60hz, i don't know why it's doing this. My head is about to split.

Like I said duplicating doesn't support high refresh rates unless both monitors have it, it uses the refresh rate of the slower monitor. This was just a work around that could work, it apparently doesn't anymore. It's not going to work unless there is another way someone else knows. Can you just use extended why do the screens need to be duplicated?

Why do the screens need to be duplicated? Are you using the TV as a second monitor? If so just use extended mode.

Sometimes my brothers sit down on the couch and just watch me play or vice versa, I put duplicate so they can see the gameplay. I got the monitor today. Before I played on 60hz so there was no problem.

I want to find a solution because i don't want to sacrifice the smoother gameplay for the one playing. It sounds a bit stupid I know. Thanks for trying to help, I really appreciate it. If you find any other solutions that might work, please let me know.
