Need help in updating RAM!!

So I have 4GB of ram 1GBx4 sticks. I am trying to upgrade my RAM to higher preferably at least 16GB. The size RAM sticks I have is 1Rx8 PC3-10600u-9-11-a1. I see other memory sticks that say 2Rx8 PC3-10600U CL9. Would that work with my computer. I also have a 1Rx8 PC3-12800U-11-12-A1 but when I put it in my mother board and try to boot the computer it runs into a Threads Error message. But without that memory stick it does not get the error.
