Is there a “default boot device missing” error?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Brand new out of the box?  It might not have been formatted or formatted with something non windows.  Windows only has a few file formats it’s willing to recognize as existing.  If it has none or the wrong kind it might not be willing to even see it though most often it will try and reformat such things.

It might be windows being annoying it might be the drive.  Trying something non windows is one option.  A Linux liveCD to boot from is one way to check.  If it’s not there either it could be the drive or a bad connection.
